Analytical Equipment: Imaging Evaluation
MGC owns a dedicated imaging booth and conducts real-shot (actual imaging) evaluations of camera modules with high reproducibility. While grasping performance indicators through quantitative evaluations such as MTF is important, the final image quality is also judged by the subjective impression of “how it looks to a viewer,” which is itself an extremely important criterion. At our company, we evaluate camera performance comprehensively from both quantitative data and real-shot evaluations.
Inside the booth, imaging is performed using various test charts under a standardized evaluation environment. We check color reproducibility (hue, saturation, and white balance) with the Macbeth ColorChecker, and evaluate sharpness and texture using fine patterns such as brushes. This enables evaluations from perspectives closer to actual use—covering not only resolution but also texture expression and natural color tones.
In addition, we support a wide range of imaging evaluations tailored to specific applications, including confirmation of telephoto performance in outdoor environments and evaluation of noise characteristics and sensitivity performance under low-light conditions—verifications that assume actual usage scenarios. This allows us to clearly identify differences in practical performance and issues that cannot be grasped from catalog specifications alone.
