Analytical Equipment: IR
MGC owns a high-performance IR (infrared spectroscopy) analysis system that supports chemical-structure analysis and resin identification of materials. This technique irradiates the sample with infrared light and, by spectrally analyzing the transmitted or reflected light, captures the vibrational states of molecules to identify chemical structures from spectral information unique to each substance. A wide variety of materials are used for the lenses of camera modules, including polycarbonate (PC), COC (cyclic olefin copolymer), COP (cyclic olefin polymer), and even glass. At MGC, we not only identify these materials with high accuracy, but also—by matching spectra against databases and by peak analysis—estimate the specific resin grade in addition to the resin species.
